The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Wiki
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a four-player co-op Lovecraftian horror extraction shooter from ACE Team (Zeno Clash, Clash: Artifacts of Chaos), published by Nacon. It launched July 15, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, following an announcement at Nacon Connect 2025 and a well-received Steam Next Fest demo.
Inspired Directly by H.P. Lovecraft
The game draws directly from Lovecraft's novella The Mound. You play one of four explorers -- Alonso, Father Miguel, Catalina, or Rodrigo -- sailing aboard a galleon to a cursed, hostile jungle, searching for a legendary underground city rumored to hold priceless treasures.
The Madness System: Your Own Senses Turn Against You
The game's signature feature is a deep madness system that distorts your perception as sanity deteriorates -- unpredictable threats blur the line between reality and illusion, sowing genuine paranoia within your group. Was that sound just a hallucination? Is that ally actually attacking you, or is a hidden creature responsible? Trust in what you see and hear erodes the deeper you venture, and teamwork -- coordinated through spatialized voice chat -- is the only way to make it back alive.
Contracts, Expeditions, and Abandoned Forts
Aboard the galleon, you sign a contract with the captain, receiving gear in exchange for treasures brought back from the jungle. Split weapons and equipment among your party, then choose which area to explore next. Discovering abandoned forts and recovering their logbooks unlocks them as new starting points for future expeditions -- genuine, persistent progression tied directly to what you find in the field.
Confirmed Enemies and Bosses
The jungle's main hostile creature type is the Y'm-bhi, known for backstab mechanics and a habit of standing back up even after being shot -- alongside ghost bats, vine creatures, and giant centipedes. Story bosses include The Lurker Below and the High Priest of Cthulhu, alongside 4 separate Legendary Hunt targets for players seeking tougher, optional challenges.
Editions
The Deluxe Edition adds the official digital soundtrack and the Fortune Hunters Characters Pack, which includes two additional exclusive playable characters.
An Honest Note on Post-Launch Support
ACE Team has been direct and active about post-launch support -- the first major hotfix addressed a substantial list of issues reported since release, and the studio maintains a public Open Beta branch on Steam so players can test upcoming patches early (with the tradeoff that Open Beta players can't matchmake with players on the main branch or on console).
