The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Wiki - FAQ
Is this based on a real H.P. Lovecraft story?
Yes -- it's directly inspired by Lovecraft's novella The Mound, adapted into a co-op extraction shooter format.
How many players can play together?
Up to 4 players in co-op, choosing from confirmed playable characters Alonso, Father Miguel, Catalina, and Rodrigo (with 2 additional characters available via the Deluxe Edition's Fortune Hunters Characters Pack).
What is the Madness System?
The game's signature mechanic -- as your sanity deteriorates, your perception becomes genuinely unreliable, blurring the line between real threats and hallucinations and sowing real paranoia within your group about who or what is actually hostile.
What enemies and bosses are confirmed?
The primary enemy is the Y'm-bhi, known for backstabs and getting back up after apparent kills, alongside ghost bats, vine creatures, and giant centipedes. Story bosses include The Lurker Below and the High Priest of Cthulhu, plus 4 additional Legendary Hunt targets for tougher optional challenges.
How does progression work between runs?
You sign contracts with a ship's captain for gear in exchange for treasures recovered, and discovering abandoned forts (by recovering their logbooks) unlocks them as new expedition starting points for future runs.
Has the game had post-launch support?
Yes -- ACE Team released a first major hotfix addressing a range of post-launch issues, and maintains a public Open Beta branch on Steam for testing upcoming patches early (though Open Beta players can't matchmake with main-branch or console players).
