The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Guides
Which Explorer Should You Play First in The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu?
This isn't a repeat of the Overview page -- it's a practical look at squad composition and survival strategy, based on official materials and community testing since the July 15 launch.
Squad Communication Matters More Than Character Pick
Since spatialized voice chat and coordinated teamwork are confirmed as central to surviving the Madness System, agree on communication habits with your squad before worrying too much about which of the 4 explorers -- Alonso, Father Miguel, Catalina, or Rodrigo -- to play. A well-coordinated team of any character combination will outlast an uncoordinated group of optimal picks.
Build Habits Around Uncertainty
Since the Madness System is specifically designed so you can't be sure whether a sighting or sound is real, adopt a habit of verbally confirming threats with teammates before reacting -- friendly fire against a paranoid teammate is a real, avoidable risk the game is built to create.
Don't Turn Your Back on a Downed Y'm-bhi
The Y'm-bhi are confirmed to often get back up even after seemingly fatal hits -- treat every kill as provisional until you've moved well away, rather than assuming the threat is over.
Prioritize Logbooks Early
Since recovering abandoned forts' logbooks unlocks new expedition starting points permanently, treat finding these as a genuine priority on early runs rather than something to chase only once you're comfortable -- the earlier you unlock more starting options, the more flexible your future expeditions become.
Save Legendary Hunts for Later
The 4 Legendary Hunt targets are confirmed as tougher, optional endgame content -- get comfortable with the core loop, contracts, and the two main story bosses (The Lurker Below, the High Priest of Cthulhu) before chasing these specifically.
