Ratatan is a rhythm roguelike action game from Ratata Arts and TVT Co., Ltd., published by Game Source Entertainment, led by Hiroyuki Kotani -- the original creator of the beloved Patapon series. It entered PC Early Access on September 18, 2025, following a successful Kickstarter campaign that raised over $1.5 million from nearly 15,000 backers. Development began at the end of 2020, with the project first unveiled publicly at BitSummit 2023.
A Real, Candid Delay
The full 1.0 release was originally set for July 16, 2026, but was postponed to October 15, 2026 -- a decision producer Kazuto Sakajiri explained directly and candidly. Early Access feedback pushed the game's scope and quality further than the original plan accounted for, and the team needed more time specifically for online multiplayer stability, bug-fixing, and certification across five separate platform configurations. Anyone who already owns the game through Early Access keeps playing through the extended window with no re-purchase required when 1.0 ships.
Spiritual Successor to Patapon, With Its Own Identity
You control musical creatures who follow rhythm-based commands in combat, echoing Patapon's iconic drum-command gameplay while building an entirely new roguelite structure around it. Confirmed playable characters from the demo include Harigitta (a vanguard wielding sword and shield), Nyandola (a mid-range distance attacker), and Pyokorappa (a high-offense spear charger), with a fourth character also confirmed playable. Each character brings a unique ability -- one uses a megaphone to boost squad morale, another creates a protective aura through guitar riffs.
Fever Mode and Tactical Positioning
Sustained rhythmic accuracy builds toward Fever Mode, a confirmed mechanic that temporarily enhances your characters' abilities. Since your squad can be moved and positioned freely during combat, deciding where to commit units, when to retreat, and how to time your rhythm inputs are all treated as genuinely critical tactical decisions, not just a rhythm-accuracy test layered over passive positioning.
Confirmed Stages and Scale
The demo specifically showcased two early-game worlds: Pirates of Parabbean (a Caribbean pirate-themed stage) and Bad Day on Yeehawler Mountain (a high-speed, Wild Western-themed stage). At full scale, the game promises battles featuring over 100 characters clashing in massive on-screen melees, with online co-op supporting up to 4 players.

A physical Nintendo Switch 2 release is confirmed at $40 (a traditional Game Card), alongside a $40 Digital Deluxe version that includes additional weapons and accessories.
