PEAK Wiki
PEAK is a cooperative climbing game from Aggro Crab and Landfall Games (developing jointly under the nickname Landcrab), released for Windows via Steam on June 16, 2025. It began as a roughly four-week game jam project before exploding into one of the biggest indie surprises in recent memory, selling more than 10 million copies in its first year and earning an Overwhelmingly Positive rating (95% of 135,000+ reviews).
The Premise
Either solo or as a group of up to four lost nature scouts, your only hope of rescue from a mysterious island is to scale the mountain at its center -- and the slightest mistake can spell your doom. The mountain's layout is semi-procedurally generated, changing with every run, while injuries, limited stamina, and genuinely dangerous environments can quickly end an ascent. Ropes, climbing spikes, food, and other unusual equipment help your group survive the climb.
The Final Ascent: PEAK's Final Major Update
Arriving August 11, 2026, The Final Ascent is confirmed as PEAK's last major content update -- both Aggro Crab and Landfall have said repeatedly, in official posts and on Steam, that this closes out the game's biome roster in its complete, intended form. The update is free for all existing owners and introduces two brand-new biomes, The Gloom (a fog-covered swamp) and The Citadel (a fully vertical tower biome packed with ladders, traps, and hazards) -- replacing Caldera and The Kiln in the game's biome rotation. Unlike other biomes, Gloom and The Citadel are confirmed to only be playable back-to-back rather than being randomly connected.
A Lore-Focused Send-Off
The update brings the return of a familiar face: Scoutmaster Myres, now fully voiced for the first time by Xalavier Nelson Jr., founder of indie studio Strange Scaffold (the award-winning El Paso, Elsewhere). The reveal trailer hints at a more lore-focused direction for the update, with Myres lamenting his fate stranded on the island before a final, unsettling shot of his ghoulified hand reaching over the mountain peak -- alongside a new lurking monster that actively hunts players, a genuine shift for a game that has otherwise leaned on environmental hazards over active pursuers.
A Deliberate, Planned Ending
Neither Aggro Crab nor Landfall intended PEAK to become a live-service game -- both studios have confirmed update frequency was always planned to taper off through 2026, and both are already working on separate new projects. The Final Ascent reads less like an ending under pressure and more like a deliberate, planned send-off for a game that became one of the industry's biggest recent surprises. The game will continue to receive patches and hotfixes, and PlayStation 5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch 2 ports are under consideration as the team's next focus, though no release date has been announced for any of them.
