Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced Wiki

Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ground-up remake of 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, developed primarily by Ubisoft Singapore (with 15 total Ubisoft studios contributing) and published by Ubisoft. It launched July 9, 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, rebuilt entirely on the latest version of the Anvil engine -- the same technology behind Assassin's Creed Shadows.

A Faithful Story, Genuinely Expanded

You once again sail the Caribbean as Edward Kenway, captain of the Jackdaw, during the Golden Age of Piracy. Despite being a remake, Resynced counts as the 15th main entry in the Assassin's Creed series, since its modern-day framing story continues directly from Assassin's Creed Shadows. The core story is faithful to the original, but genuinely expanded -- new storylines are dedicated to fan-favorite historical figures Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet, and three new Officers join Edward's crew as part of the main narrative itself, not just as side content, each with their own origin missions.

Returning Talent

Matt Ryan, the original voice of Edward Kenway, returns and recorded entirely new lines specifically for this remake -- alongside returning writer Darby McDevitt and composer Brian Tyler, both from the 2013 original. Musician Woodkid also contributed a reimagined track to mark Edward's return.

What's Actually Changed in Combat

Combat has been reworked to feel closer to Assassin's Creed Shadows, with a more deliberate, parry-driven rhythm. One change worth knowing if you're a returning fan: the Hidden Blade is no longer usable in open combat, restricted to stealth takedowns and contextual kills -- swords are now the primary means of fighting. Parkour has also been revamped, and eavesdropping missions no longer instantly desynchronize you the moment you're spotted, a genuine quality-of-life fix over the original.

Naval and Exploration Upgrades

Ship customization is expanded, underwater exploration is deeper than the original, dynamic weather now genuinely affects ship handling, and you can recruit pets to bring aboard the Jackdaw. New sea shanties and a photo mode round out the presentation upgrades, alongside ray-traced lighting with global illumination, micropolygon and PBR rendering, and fully modernized water simulation.

A Note on the Games Industry Context

Worth knowing honestly: around this game's launch, Ubisoft closed its Belgrade studio (June 2026) and laid off staff at Ubisoft Barcelona -- two of the studios that contributed to Resynced's development -- drawing real criticism from affected developers even as the game itself launched to strong commercial and critical reception.
