World of Warcraft: Midnight Wiki
World of Warcraft: Midnight is the second chapter of the Worldsoul Saga trilogy of expansions, led by Chris Metzen, developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment for PC. The expansion continues directly from the events of The War Within, as the void entity Xal'atath leads an invasion threatening to engulf Azeroth in darkness.
The Setting and Story
Midnight's primary setting is the kingdom of Quel'Thalas, divided into the zones of Eversong Woods and Zul'Aman, with additional zones including Harandar and the Voidstorm -- the capital city of Silvermoon serves as the central hub for players. The expansion centers on the conflict between the forces of Light and Void, with confirmed named figures including Decimus, Lothraxion, Alleria, Nexus-King Salhadaar, and the domanaar Terminas all playing key roles as the story unfolds.
Curse of Ula'tek: A Major Content Update
The Curse of Ula'tek content update (patch 12.1) launches the week of August 11, 2026, opening the way to the Coiled Isle -- a new zone off the east coast of Zul'Aman where venomous foes, cursed waters, and long-buried secrets await. The Midnight campaign continues as Zul'jan, having previously helped uncover the key to Ula'tek at great personal cost, is pursued into the isle by his sister Zul'jarra, who seeks to bring him and others home to Zul'Aman. Players also uncover a long-buried history: the High Elf, Void Elf, Nightborne, Zandalari, and Amani factions are all revealed as descendants of a common ancestor race, the Haranir, while the Amani are exposed for secretly summoning Ula'tek from the Rift of Aln during a ritual to win the ancient Aqiri War.
Ula'tek: A New Raid Antagonist
Arriving with the start of Midnight Season 2, players face Ula'tek herself in the new Venomous Abyss raid -- an ancient, powerful creature of hatred, corruption, and venom, unleashed once more by Zul'jan's own actions. The raid features eight new boss encounters, culminating in a confrontation with Ula'tek as the final boss.
New Systems: Lairs, a New Dungeon, and Delves
A genuinely new system, Lairs, evolves the concept of world bosses into instanced encounters with scaling difficulty up to flexible Mythic (supporting 15-25 players), found in specific locations similar to Delves and each equipped with a summoning stone. The first confirmed Lair is The Tidebound Grotto. A new three-boss dungeon, Altar of Fangs, is available up to Mythic 0 at launch and joins the Mythic+ rotation once Season 2 begins. Three new Delves are also confirmed -- The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and Venomfall Deeps (a new Nemesis Delve) -- alongside a Local story following tortollan sea captain Tokka, letting players build reputation with his crew and fish in the isle's newly cursed waters.
Season 2 Timing
A pre-season week runs from the content update's launch (the week of August 11) through August 18, letting players gear up, hunt treasure, and claim rewards ahead of Midnight Season 2's full start. Mythic+ and PvP percentile cutoffs are calculated as realms enter maintenance, Crafting Sparks begin dropping during the pre-season, and Voidcore bonus rolls specifically become available starting the week of August 25 for anyone who has unlocked at least the appropriate track.
