What's Actually New in STEINS;GATE RE:BOOT Compared to the Original
This isn't a repeat of the Overview page -- it's a closer, side-by-side look at what genuinely changed for returning fans, based on official materials ahead of the staggered August-October 2026 releases.
The Scenario Foundation Has Shifted
RE:BOOT isn't based on the original 2009 script directly -- it's built from STEINS;GATE ELITE's scenario, refined further for pacing and readability. If you only played the very first version and never touched ELITE, expect a genuinely smoother reading experience even before accounting for the new content added on top.
Genuinely New Story Content
A brand-new worldline and ending scenario have been added -- content that has never appeared in any prior version of STEINS;GATE, original or ELITE. Even players who've finished every previous ending won't have seen this specific outcome before.
The Visual Overhaul Is More Than a Coat of Paint
Every character, background, and event still image was redrawn completely from scratch, not touched up -- roughly double the event stills and about 20% more background art compared to the original. Character designer huke returns specifically to redesign outfits and accessories with a more contemporary look, while Akihabara itself has been rebuilt from real 2010-era reference material.
Audio Has Been Redone Too, Not Just Reused
All voice lines are newly re-recorded rather than reused from the original release, and returning composer Takeshi Abo has remade the entire soundtrack rather than simply remastering the old tracks.
A Fair Note If You're Skeptical
If you're a longtime fan wondering whether this remake is worth it given the original is still playable today, know that this skepticism is shared by some in the existing community -- the directors' stated reasoning is specifically about approachability for newcomers, not a claim that the original is broken or unplayable. Whether the new worldline, visual overhaul, and pacing refinements justify a revisit is a genuinely reasonable point of disagreement.
