Pax Autocratica — Overview
Pax Autocratica is a satirical totalitarian colony sim welded to an FPS roguelite, developed and published by Multiverse. It enters Steam Early Access on August 10, 2026 for $29.99 (17% launch discount for the first two weeks), with an expected Early Access period of roughly two years. Unusually for a pre-launch game, a free standalone Prologue covering the opening sector has been live and actively patched since December 1, 2025, so much of what's described here is genuinely playable today, not pure speculation.
Two Games Bolted Together
The core hook is that Pax Autocratica is genuinely two different games fused into one loop. In the colony half, you run a totalitarian state in the fractured Tyris System, molding citizens through fear, propaganda, surveillance, and punishment -- or through comfort and prosperity, if you'd rather rule with a lighter touch -- while tracking hunger, happiness, and loyalty and trying to keep dissent from boiling into open revolt. Then you personally drop into first-person battles that scale from small skirmishes up to large-scale mechanized warfare with infantry, tanks, and mechs.
Ideology as a Real Gameplay System
Your laws and policies aren't flavor text -- they genuinely filter into citizen behavior and your military's performance. Captured enemies can be converted into true believers or sacrificed outright, and the game frames this as a real strategic choice with consequences, not just a moral flourish.
Combat Loadouts and Core Fragments
In battle, you engineer combat loadouts around four swappable skills for custom playstyles, and scout for Core Fragments -- items that grant both you and your soldiers a unique set of powerful abilities on each expedition, adding roguelite variance to the FPS half of the loop.
The Free Prologue Is a Real Preview, Not a Timed Demo
The standalone Prologue focuses on the opening sector, Elysia, and has already been iterated on with real patches (quest-flow fixes, enemy spawn tuning, model fixes) based on player feedback. It deliberately excludes deeper automation, mechs, and other late-game systems reserved for the full Early Access release, but everything it does include is genuinely representative of the final game's tone and core loop.
A Real Charity Commitment
Multiverse has confirmed that 1% of all net revenue from Pax Autocratica will be donated to children's healthcare and humanitarian assistance in low-income and conflict-affected countries, through the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) -- further details were promised after the Early Access launch.
