Mortal Shell II

Mortal Shell II Wiki - FAQ

Do I need to play the original Mortal Shell first?

No -- Mortal Shell II is a standalone sequel. It shows similarities to the protagonist concept and setting of the original, and one Shell (Eredrim) returns directly, but it doesn't require prior knowledge of the first game's story.

How many playable Shells are there?

8 total, confirmed via the official Devout Edition skin set and Mortal Shell II's own site. As of this writing, only 4 have been named: Harros (tutorial-only), Tiel the Acolyte, Eredrim the Venerable, and Proxima the Broodseeker. The remaining 4 haven't been revealed -- treat any source claiming a full 8-name list as unverified.

Does combat still use a stamina system?

No -- this is the biggest mechanical change from the original. Combat is no longer restricted by a depleting stamina bar, letting players chain attacks and combos more freely for a faster-paced, more aggressive rhythm.

Is there a demo or beta available?

Yes -- a free Open Beta has been live on Steam since June 5, 2026, covering the prologue and an early open-world stretch with 2 playable Shells (Harros and Tiel). It has drawn more than 500,000 players.

What's included in the different editions?

Standard Edition is $49.99. The Devout Edition ($59.99) adds up to 72 hours of early access starting August 17 and an exclusive Obsidian skin set for all 8 playable Shells. A PlayStation 5-exclusive physical Revered Edition (around $69.99) adds a SteelBook case, art book, fine art prints, and two pre-order bonus skins.

Is there New Game Plus?

The official site and multiple wikis reference New Game Plus as a returning feature, consistent with the original game, though full specifics haven't been detailed ahead of launch.
