Memoirium Wiki
Memoirium is a retro-inspired soulslike action RPG developed solo by Paolo Villanueva under the studio name GoldenGratus, a Philippines-based creator who came to game development after a career as a freelance writer. It's published by Outersloth -- the publishing label from Among Us studio InnerSloth -- with additional backing through a partnership with Casey Yano, co-creator of Slay the Spire. It launches August 13, 2026 on PC via Steam for $14.99, following development that began in 2022.
A Genuinely Personal Project
Villanueva has described Memoirium as a passion project centered on the themes of dreams and identity, and he's been unusually candid about what finishing it means to him. In his own words on the game's Steam Community page: "even if I failed, I would still keep making games... my humblest dream is that at least one person enjoys it." That sincerity runs through the game's premise directly.
The Premise
You play a Dreamer who awakens in a crumbling realm of dreams with no memory of who you are or where you are. Locations shift without warning or logic -- one moment a familiar 21st-century school, the next an abstract castle held together by wax -- as you fight through liminal spaces against corrupted phantasms, slashing with light-infused blades and casting lullaby incantations to disintegrate foes with elemental power.
Structure and Equipment
The world is fully interconnected with multiple paths rather than a strictly linear progression, spanning 8 distinct dungeons, each with its own enemies, mini-bosses, and full bosses. Confirmed equipment includes 14 "game-changing" armors, masks, and off-hand items, plus 25 Keepsakes -- consumable items that fully replenish at certain points and grant passive effects through use. Equipment choices genuinely change how enemies behave toward you: one confirmed armor set affects how long negative status effects last, while a specific mask changes how enemies approach you in combat.
Your Safe Room
Between runs, you return to a personal safe room within the dream world -- a space you can decorate and write in using mementos found during exploration, giving you a quiet moment to take stock of the journey so far.
An Honest Note on Boss Difficulty
Real, candid feedback exists directly from both players and the developer himself about one particularly punishing encounter, nicknamed "the boss of light." One Steam Community demo reviewer described over 30 attempts without a win, reaching character level 20 and still losing to a combination of stun effects and phase-based projectile spam. Villanueva has responded directly to this kind of feedback in the same community space, acknowledging the fight's frustrating mechanics and discussing specific fixes (including adjustments to how lock-on targeting behaves) -- a genuinely responsive, still-evolving relationship between the solo developer and his early players.
