Is this a new remake, or a remaster of the original games?
A remaster -- this is the same HD Remaster compilation that first launched in 2013-2014, now brought to Nintendo Switch 2 with updated visuals and new quality-of-life features, not a ground-up rebuild like Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Will my Nintendo Switch 1 save transfer to the Switch 2 version?
No -- the two versions are confirmed as entirely separate products on the eShop, and save data cannot be transferred between them. No upgrade path has been announced.
What's new specifically for the Switch 2 release?
A High-Speed Mode (adjusting game speed, character stat enhancements, and encounter rate) and a toggle to disable random encounters entirely -- both previously exclusive to the PC version, now appearing on console for the first time.
Is there a physical edition?
Only in Japan, releasing August 27, 2026 as a Game-Key Card (meaning the cartridge contains no actual game data, just unlocks a digital download). The Western release is confirmed digital-only.
Does this include the harder international-version content?
Yes -- both games include content from their International versions not present in the original Western PS2 releases, including exclusive boss battles, additional story content, and the notoriously difficult Dark Aeons and Penance optional superbosses.
How long is the combined experience?
Over 100 combined hours across both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2.
