Farming Automation and Drone Upgrades: A Beginner's Guide to Doloc Town
This isn't a repeat of the Overview page -- it's a closer, practical look at how automation and drone exploration actually work together, based on official materials ahead of the August 6 1.0 launch.
Automation Is a Real Investment, Not a Late-Game Reward
Don't wait until you feel "established" to invest in solar and wind power -- farming drone stations and end-to-end automated seeding, nurturing, and gathering are core systems worth building toward progressively. Treating automation as a pure endgame luxury means missing out on real efficiency gains for most of your playthrough.
Working With Extreme Weather Instead of Fighting It
Acid rain, heat, and thunderstorms aren't purely threats to defend against -- lightning can be harnessed to power your farm directly, and torrential rain can irrigate fields on its own. Plan your farm layout with this in mind rather than assuming every weather event is purely destructive.
Your Drone Is Essential for Exploration, Not Optional
Since the wilderness beyond Doloc Town genuinely contains hostile creatures, prioritize upgrading your drone's weapon and lighting modules before pushing into caves or the Old City Ruins -- don't assume your starting drone configuration is sufficient for deeper exploration.
Approaching the Five Regions
The Outskirts, River Valley, Wetlands, caves, and the new Old City Ruins each have distinct resources, enemies, and stories -- treat them as genuinely different challenges rather than reskinned versions of the same exploration loop, and don't rush toward the newest area (Old City Ruins) before your drone and combat readiness can actually handle it.
A Note for Returning Early Access Players
If you were using function mods requiring DTMAPI before 1.0, uninstall them first -- they're not guaranteed compatible with the full release, and the standard Steam uninstall won't remove the BepInEx folder they rely on.
