Dead Zone Revive

Dead Zone Revive FAQ

Is this the same game as the original Last Stand: Dead Zone?

It's a fan-driven revival of it, made with permission from the original creator, Con Artist Games. The original shut down its servers on January 1, 2021. Dead Zone Revive cannot use the original branding and cannot be monetized, per the licensing agreement.

Is it really free forever?

Yes -- the developers have explicitly stated the game will be "completely free and without microtransactions, now and forever," funded by user donations rather than in-game purchases.

Why isn't the game live on Steam yet if it has a Steam page?

The original target was August 3, 2026, but the developer didn't have enough time to submit a review build to Valve before that date -- Steam typically takes 1-2 weeks to validate a submitted build. The Steam page exists and is wishlist-able, but as of this writing the game itself is not yet playable there.

Can I play it somewhere else right now?

Yes -- it's been playable since November 2025 via GameJolt, Itch.io, IndieDB, and directly in-browser (choosing between the original Flash version or a modern Ruffle emulator). All platforms share the same account and server, including the eventual Steam version.

Is the game finished?

No, and the developers are upfront about it -- they've described the current Early Access state as "just a game you can enter," with core systems like completing the tutorial, looting, and building still being actively developed.

What roles can my survivors have?

Five confirmed roles: Fighter, Engineer, Medic, Scavenger, and Recon -- covering combat, fortification, healing, resource gathering, and reconnaissance respectively.

Why isn't there a specific weapons list?

The original game this revival recreates featured over 30,000 craftable and lootable weapon/gear items -- a procedurally-varied loot system rather than a small curated list, similar to an action-RPG's item pool. That scale makes individual weapon-by-weapon documentation impractical; specific named weapons have not been catalogued by any current source.

What is Survivor Morale?

A mechanic from the original game tied to your survivors' wellbeing and performance -- one of the earliest features revealed (alongside the Fighter class) when the original Last Stand: Dead Zone was first announced in January 2012.

Are there Alliances or player-vs-player features?

In the original game, yes -- Alliances let players band together, unlocked at level 10 and requiring an Alliance Banner, with members competing against rival Alliances on a leaderboard. Raiding other players' compounds for resources was also a core feature. Whether these systems are already implemented in the current Early Access build is unconfirmed as of this writing.
