Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Guides

Which Fighter to Start With in Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game

This isn't a repeat of the Overview page -- it's a closer look at how the 12 launch fighters actually differ, and how the Flow System and Support Characters shape a match, based on official materials and early reviews since the July 23 launch.

Understanding the Flow System First

Flow is the movement layer underneath every fighter's kit -- dashing, evading, and repositioning at speed. Landing hits builds Energy Points, which fuel both enhanced special moves and cinematic Super Arts capable of turning a losing match around. Getting comfortable with Flow-based movement before diving into a specific fighter's combos will make everything else click faster.

Fighter Archetypes to Consider First

  • Sokka -- a non-bender tactician using a space sword and boomerang, a good pick if you want tricky positioning and item-based mixups over raw elemental power.
  • Korra -- a brawler-style fighter using all four elements, suited to players who want straightforward aggression without picking a single element to commit to.
  • Azula -- confirmed to have two distinct combat stances, making her one of the more complex fighters on the roster; better as a second or third pick once you're comfortable with the basics.
  • Aang -- combines his glider/bo staff with airbending, plus a separate Avatar State variant slot for a heightened-power version of the same character.

Picking the Right Support Character

Every fighter chooses 1 of 3 Support Characters before a match, and that choice meaningfully changes their kit -- Toph, for example, can select a support that adds extra properties to her stone-pillar special for longer combos. With 36 total supports across the launch roster, don't treat this choice as a formality; it's a real part of building a fighter that suits your playstyle.

A Fair Warning on Launch Polish

Early community feedback has flagged unfinished animations on some fighters and non-functional combo trials at launch -- if a specific character or training tool feels broken, check current patch notes before assuming you're doing something wrong.
