Urban Strife

Urban Strife Wiki

Urban Strife is a turn-based tactical survival RPG from White Pond Games, published by MicroProse Software. Version 1.0 launched July 14, 2026 on PC via Steam, marking the end of an Early Access period that began December 10, 2024 -- roughly 19 months of community-driven development.

The Premise

You begin as a mysterious patient evacuated by the CDC from an Atlanta laboratory shortly before the city falls, waking two years later at Urban Shelter -- a struggling survivor settlement in the fictional Urban County, Georgia. Keeping that community alive means far more than shooting zombies: you recruit a militia of survivors, secure food, medicine, fuel, and building materials, repair facilities, and assign workers to production chains, all while navigating the politics of rival factions.

Real Ballistic Combat

Combat blends old-school turn-based tactics with genuine ballistic simulation -- cover material and firing angles genuinely affect an attack, so a poor defensive position can turn a safe-looking move into a costly mistake. Action Points, Overwatch ambushes set up to trigger on the enemy's turn, and body-part targeting all factor into fights, alongside stealthy silent takedowns for when gunfire would draw too much unwanted attention. When gunfire isn't an option, melee weapons range from the practical (a crossbow, improvised tools) to the memorably specific -- the game's own marketing cites "grandma's frying pan" and a spiked baseball bat nicknamed "Lucille's local cousin" among your options.

Three Factions, Real Consequences

You'll navigate alliances with three confirmed factions -- the National Guard, the Church of Second Chance, and Shady Lady (the local biker gang) -- with your choices determining which high-tier recruits and equipment become available to you. A confirmed "learn-by-doing" skill system means your survivors naturally improve in whichever skills they actually use most during combat, rather than relying purely on manual point allocation.

The Atlanta Horde: A Confirmed Endgame Deadline

The campaign builds toward a climactic final siege against the massive Atlanta Horde, confirmed to arrive on in-game Day 20 -- a real, specific deadline that shapes how you prioritize shelter defenses, gear repair, and squad readiness throughout the campaign. Version 1.0 delivers the complete story with branching quests and multiple faction paths, culminating in this siege as the game's true conclusion.

What Changed With 1.0

The full release adds a redesigned perk system and, for the first time, the ability to repair favorite weapons and armor rather than simply replacing worn-out gear. Existing Early Access saves were not wiped and can carry through to the completed ending, though White Pond Games has recommended starting fresh to avoid compatibility issues from older save files. Localization for French, German, Spanish, and Russian reached a beta pass covering roughly 96% of the game's written content around launch.
