Uncanny Tales: The Watcher Wiki
Uncanny Tales: The Watcher is a solo-developed psychological horror game from VYASTUDIO, self-published on PC via Steam, released August 6, 2026. It's a new entry in the Uncanny Tales episodic horror series (following the earlier Uncanny Tales: Cold Road) -- a franchise built on a real, distinctive premise: the scariest things aren't monsters or the supernatural, but people themselves, with each episode drawing on real-life fears and unsettling everyday situations.
The Premise
Set in 2006, you become the new caretaker of a remote nature reserve in Russia -- patrolling the territory in a rugged 4x4, checking phototraps deep in the woods, and monitoring the area through surveillance cameras. But as the game's own tagline warns, you are not the only one watching. Over roughly 2-2.5 hours, you carry out your daily duties as the reserve's watchman while gradually uncovering the unsettling story hidden within the place.
A Genuine Prequel Demo With Its Own Named Protagonist
The free demo isn't simply a slice of the full game -- it's a genuine standalone prequel chapter, set in August 2006, following a different named character: ranger Sergey Ivanovich Kalashnikov, on his final shift before retirement. While the new protagonist has yet to arrive, players experience one last quiet evening patrol -- checking camera traps, filing an end-of-day report, and chatting over the radio with a partner about vacation plans -- before things take a turn.
Mikhalych: Your Only Company
Throughout the main game, your only real connection to the outside world is Mikhalych, an old friend reachable by radio at key moments -- whether to discuss strange findings in the reserve or simply listen to his familiar grumbling.
A Genuine Solo-Developer Milestone
The game surpassed 20,000 wishlists ahead of launch, a real, meaningful milestone for a solo indie developer. VYASTUDIO has been direct in thanking the community for wishlisting, playing the demo, and reporting bugs throughout development.
