T.W.I.R.L. Wiki
T.W.I.R.L. is a first-person psychological horror game and the debut title from independent studio Genie Boy Games, published alongside Haunted Publishing Syndicate. It launches August 10, 2026 on PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam, with PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch versions confirmed to follow later in 2026.
The Premise
You play a nine-year-old boy in 2006, waking at 3:00 a.m. while his family sleeps, coaxed out of bed by an unknown presence -- described deliberately ambiguously as "a demon...? Person? Something else?" Genie Boy Games has been clear this ambiguity is intentional, not a placeholder. As you creep through the dark halls of your childhood home, that presence compels you to "T.W.I.R.L." -- with one rule: don't tell anybody. The game tells this story through P.T.-inspired loops that change both the boy and his home each time, gradually revealing the life story of someone hiding a deep, potentially sinister secret into adulthood.
A Sincere Creative Statement
Founder Ben Escobar has spoken directly about the game's intent: "our movements, habits, and secrets shape our identities, especially as children... T.W.I.R.L. is meant to ask: who are we in between, through each step towards something we actively keep secret?" Rather than being preoccupied with an end destination like most walking simulators, the game is built around that in-between tension itself.
Real, Credited Voice Cast
The demo's intimate cast is brought to life by a team of first-time video game voice actors, including 14-year-old Alexander Roff as "The Boy," Jerry Schultz as "The Priest," and Colleen Arnold as "The Mother," among others.
A Distinct Take on a Familiar Influence
T.W.I.R.L. draws direct comparisons to Silent Hills' famous P.T. demo, and the developers have embraced this openly -- responding to one player's feedback that it felt like "a more 'personal' version of P.T." by confirming that was exactly the intention, while giving the game its own distinct identity.
A Real Technical Note
The Steam listing confirms the game is not compatible with macOS systems using Intel processors -- Apple Silicon Macs only. The developers have also confirmed the full release will include achievement support and Steam Deck compatibility.
