The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Wiki
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is Bethesda Game Studios and Virtuos's ground-up rebuild of the beloved 2006 RPG, published by Bethesda Softworks. It shadow-dropped digitally on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam, Microsoft Store) on April 22, 2025, followed by a physical PS5/Xbox release on October 13, 2025.
Coming to Nintendo Switch 2: A Series First
On August 11, 2026, Oblivion Remastered arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 -- marking the first time any version of The Elder Scrolls IV has ever appeared on a Nintendo platform. Confirmed both digitally and physically, with a genuinely notable detail: after initial plans for a code-in-a-box release drew criticism, Bethesda committed to a real physical edition with the complete base game entirely on the cartridge -- no Game-Key Card required, unlike some other recent Switch 2 third-party releases. Performance targets are confirmed at 900p in handheld mode and 1080p docked, both at 30fps with DLSS implemented; no 60fps option has been announced for this platform. The Switch 2 version does not support cross-buy, save transfers from other platforms, or Game Pass access.
A Genuine Rebuild, Not Just a Visual Upgrade
Despite the "remastered" branding, this is closer to a full remake -- the entire game was rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5, with a significantly reworked UI and improved systems like hit detection and combat effects. The open-world structure and core mechanics of the original remain intact: real-time combat, character leveling, skill-based progression, and questlines spanning multiple factions across the province of Cyrodiil.
The Story
Set in 3E 433, the game follows the Hero of Kvatch through the assassination of Emperor Uriel Septim VII and the looming invasion of Daedric forces led by the Mythic Dawn cult, worshippers of Mehrunes Dagon, the Daedric Prince of Destruction. Martin Septim, the Emperor's illegitimate heir, ultimately shatters the Amulet of Kings and sacrifices himself to become the Avatar of Akatosh -- a massive golden dragon -- to banish Dagon and seal the barrier between Oblivion and the mortal realm.
Included Content: Two Full Expansions and Every DLC
Every edition includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles story expansions, plus all previously-released DLC: Fighter's Stronghold, Spell Tome Treasures, Vile Lair, Mehrune's Razor, The Thieves Den, Wizard's Tower, The Orrery, and the Horse Armor Pack. The Deluxe Edition additionally includes custom Mehrunes Dagon and Akatosh Armor and Weapon Sets.
An Honest Note on Community Reception
Worth knowing directly: while critic reviews at original launch were generally positive, real player discussion since has included genuine concerns about bugs and technical stability that some feel Bethesda hasn't fully addressed, with direct comparisons made unfavorably to the studio's more polished Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition port. This is a real, ongoing point of community discussion rather than a universally settled matter.
