Hero Customization in Tears of Metal

Tears of Metal supports hero appearance and loadout customization at launch, though it's cosmetic-focused rather than a character creator -- there's no face or body sculpting since each hero is a fixed named character.

Clothing items you unlock can carry their own effects on top of their visual look, and combined with unlockable weapon variants (which change combos, moveset, and special effects entirely, not just stats), your hero can end up feeling meaningfully different from their default loadout over time.

In 4-player co-op specifically, cosmetics serve a practical purpose beyond looks -- they help squadmates quickly tell which hero and role each player is running mid-fight, which matters more as enemy density scales up with more players.
