Weapon Progression and Emblems in Tears of Metal
Tears of Metal doesn't use replaceable loot weapons -- each hero has one fixed weapon identity that grows with you, upgraded permanently at the Village Smithy across 3 branches: Physical damage, Dragon Stone elemental, and Emblem synergy.
For Early Access content, Physical builds are the most reliable starting point -- invest first in base weapon damage, combo speed, and armor-piercing tiers before chasing the harder-to-set-up elemental or synergy branches.
Emblems slot into your light attack, heavy attack, and other action slots to layer clan-themed effects on top of your base weapon. Bloodlust Sigil is widely considered the best single emblem right now -- an unconditional 40% boost to both solo DPS and troop attack speed that works regardless of your weapon loadout.
For heavy melee builds specifically, Warlord's Mark paired with critical hit chance emblems scales exponentially, letting slow, high-damage weapons one-shot elites -- though this only pays off with a genuinely high base critical chance, making it a late-game optimization rather than an early pick.
Defensive emblems fall off hard in later Acts, since enemy density and damage output outpace flat armor or health boosts -- swapping them for offensive cooldown reductions by Act 3 is the common recommendation.
In 4-player co-op, don't stack identical builds -- physical builds capitalize on staggered enemies, elemental builds soften massive waves, and synergy builds delete dangerous elites, so a squad covering all three roles outperforms four copies of the same setup.
