Servant of the Lake Wiki
Servant of the Lake is a premium single-player point-and-click puzzle adventure from Rusty Lake, an Amsterdam-based studio that has developed 18 surrealistic point-and-click games in the Rusty Lake Universe since 2015, inspired directly by David Lynch's Twin Peaks. It launches August 13, 2026 on Steam (PC), iOS, and Android, priced at $4.99 on mobile.
The Premise
Welcome to the Vanderboom house, home to the infamous Vanderboom family: visitors are arriving soon, and you're meant to begin your housekeeping duties immediately. Solve the puzzles needed to fulfill your daily tasks, look after the household, welcome the visitor, and ensure their comfort -- all while helping the family pursue their alchemical ambitions. Set decades before Rusty Lake: Roots during the era of Aldous and William Vanderboom, the story asks a simple but unsettling question: do you think you can survive the weekend?
From Simple Chores to Dark Revelations
Tasks confirmed to begin with straightforward housekeeping -- straightening family portraits, doing the laundry -- before evolving into assisting the family with complex alchemical experiments and, in the game's own words, "cleaning up the aftermath" of whatever those experiments produce. As with every entry in the Rusty Lake series, the surreal, escape-room-style puzzles are confirmed to gradually unravel into genuinely harrowing revelations beneath the household's ordinary surface.
Sound, Pedigree, and Critical Buzz
The game features an original atmospheric soundtrack composed and performed by long-time series collaborator Victor Butzelaar, with sound design by Driftwood Audio, the studio's regular audio partner since The Past Within. Ahead of launch, Eurogamer described Rusty Lake as returning with "another deliciously macabre adventure," while GamesRadar highlighted joining the household's housekeeping team to uncover a new mystery.
Two Demos Ahead of Launch
A free teaser demo, Servant of the Lake Lite, is confirmed available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, offering a 15-30 minute prologue covering the carriage's arrival and initial estate assignments. A separate, more extensive demo is also confirmed available on Steam.
