Character Customization in Nightingale
Nightingale's character creator starts with 78 Archetype presets (39 male, 39 female), then lets you fine-tune extensively -- an Age slider from 16 to 70 with a birth date, a Voice selection, and a Story backstory choice that affects your starting clothing and a few early stats.
The standout, genuinely unusual feature is the Ancestry tab's Lineage system: instead of only using sliders, you assemble an entire family tree -- picking a mother, father, and even grandparents and great-grandparents from pre-made character templates (including same-gender parent pairings if you choose). You then adjust an Inheritance slider to make your character resemble one relative or another, rather than sculpting facial features from scratch.
Facial sliders remain available on top of Lineage for head shape, eyes, and mouth, plus hairstyle, hair color, and makeup -- and famously, 4 separate sliders just for teeth (crookedness, decay, and metal tooth choice for a pirate-style look).
Two real limitations: there is no body-shape customization (height, frame, or musculature) at all, only head and face -- a common community request that has not been added -- and once you leave the character creation screen at the start of the game, you cannot change your appearance again.
Since Lineage choices only visibly matter through the Inheritance slider adjustments during creation itself, and Story mostly affects only the opening hours, don't over-invest time in either system if you're eager to get into the game -- the facial sliders are where the real long-term customization impact lives.
