Moss: The Forgotten Relic

Moss: The Forgotten Relic Wiki

Moss: The Forgotten Relic is a flatscreen puzzle-platforming adventure from Polyarc, combining the beloved VR-exclusive games Moss (2018) and Moss: Book II (2022) -- along with the Twilight Garden DLC -- into a single, definitive package. It launched July 16, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, marking the first time either game has ever been playable without a VR headset.

The Story and the "Reader"

You guide Quill, a small but courageous mouse, after she discovers an ancient relic that awakens a magical bond with an unseen guardian known as the Reader -- and you are the Reader. Rather than simply watching Quill's story unfold, you directly shape the world around her: manipulating the environment, controlling enemies, and solving puzzles as her invisible partner, while Quill herself handles movement and combat. What begins as a rescue mission grows into a larger conflict over powerful relics that could change the fate of the kingdom.

A Careful, Thoughtful VR-to-Flatscreen Transition

Polyarc has described this release as sitting "somewhere between a remaster and a reimagining" -- reworked controls, enhanced visuals, and a completely new cinematic camera system (nicknamed "Smart Follow") replace the first-person VR perspective, designed specifically to keep Quill visible and readable without headset-based movement. The transition from Book I directly into Book II has also been smoothed out, fixing what was previously an unceremonious cutoff between the two games.

Combat, Weapons, and the Arcane

Quill fights using a sword by default, with a chakram and the Hammer of Caryll available as additional confirmed weapons across the adventure. Her opponents are largely the Arcane -- mechanical and magical constructs guarding the path to the throne -- each demanding a different tactical approach: fast attacks for clearing groups, heavy strikes for armored foes, and environmental tricks like directing enemies onto pressure plates or using weaker foes as cover from projectiles.

Confirmed Bosses

Named boss encounters include The Warden, Tylan, and the Cinder Knight, with later Book II fights specifically requiring rapid switching between attacking as Quill and manipulating the world as the Reader.

A Genuine Accessibility Highlight

Quill is confirmed to use American Sign Language within the game -- a real, notable piece of representation. The game also includes a dedicated Skip Combat option, letting players bypass combat encounters (including boss battles) to focus purely on story and puzzles, while still requiring the enemy interactions specifically needed to solve environmental puzzles.

Music

The score is composed by Jason Graves, with lyrical contributions from Malukah -- both real, notable credits for the project's emotional orchestral identity.
