HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon

HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon Wiki

HellSlave II: Judgment of the Archon is a dark fantasy dungeon crawler RPG from solo French developer Baptiste Miny (credited as Ars Goetia), published by Dear Villagers. It launches on Steam today, August 4, 2026 at 4pm CEST, with a 15% launch discount -- a direct sequel to 2022's HellSlave, built on player feedback from that first game.

The Premise

Thousands of years of endless war between six Demon Lords have ruined the world. Tired of the chaos, the heavens have unleashed the Archon of Judgment, an unstoppable force set to destroy everything -- humans, demons, all of it. Your one chance at salvation is to hunt down and destroy every Demon Lord yourself before that annihilation arrives.

Character Creation and Classes

You start as either a Warrior or a Sorcerer, then specialize further into one of six total classes -- confirmed examples span from spectral assassins to plague-bearing mages. Power access is flexible: every talent in the tree is technically reachable, but your chosen class shapes the path you actually take through it, encouraging real build identity rather than a fully open, class-less system.

Combat: A Real-Time and Turn-Based Hybrid

Combat runs on a genuine Time Management system -- every second counts, blending real-time pressure with turn-based tactical planning rather than being purely one or the other. Battles are viewed from a first-person perspective, layered with active powers, passive talents, and a randomized loot system supported by a gear-forging crafting system.

An Honest, Balanced Early Assessment

Preview coverage ahead of launch has been candid rather than purely promotional: reviewers praised the demo's tactical identity -- the time-based combat, flexible class system, randomized loot, and hand-drawn art -- while flagging real rough edges including slow exploration pacing, repeated enemy types, and unskippable attack animations. Community feedback has also noted a real, sometimes frustrating difficulty spike once players clear the first dungeon and run into tougher mini-bosses blocking further progress.

A Note on Content

The game's own official content descriptor confirms it depicts violence and discriminatory language and behavior between the setting's fantasy races -- a fictional in-world social theme worth knowing about going in, alongside frequent violence and gore more broadly.
