Vessels, the Grinder, and Outpost Progression in GRAIN ROT
GRAIN ROT doesn't have traditional weapons and armor in the usual sense -- progression instead runs through the vessels you possess, the loot economy built around the Grinder, and the persistent Sanctuary Outpost hub between runs.
Vessels (Constructs)
Over 20 unlockable constructs exist in the demo alone, each a distinct wooden body with its own ability set. Since losing your current vessel isn't the end of a run, building familiarity with several different constructs rather than relying on one favorite pays off when you're forced to possess whatever's nearby.
The Grinder
A dedicated machine for converting scavenged scrap directly into gold -- a core, intentional part of the resource loop rather than a side activity. Deciding what to smash for the Grinder versus what to haul back intact for the Outpost is a real resource-management decision each run.
The Sanctuary Outpost
Everything you successfully extract feeds this persistent hub: interactive furniture, stat improvements, rescued survivors, and new constructs to unlock. The full 1.0 release expands this significantly with a second Outpost floor and additional NPC machines for enchanting and repairing items -- meaning early loot choices set up a meaningfully deeper long-term structure than the demo hinted at.
Cosmetics: Wardrobe and Hats
Separate from functional progression, GRAIN ROT confirms wardrobe upgrades and a hat-collecting system for your vessels -- purely cosmetic, but a real part of what the demo shipped with.
