Flats Full of Cats

Flats Full of Cats Wiki

Flats Full of Cats is a cozy hidden object game from Devcats, self-published on PC via Steam (native Windows and Linux support) since August 3, 2026, marking the 9th title in the studio's beloved Full of Cats series, four years after the original A Building Full of Cats. The base game is free to play.

The Premise

You explore a mysterious apartment building that isn't bound by time, space, or logic -- every floor works as a self-contained episode with its own theme, story, and set of cat-filled apartments. The free base game includes 3 flats with 3 rooms each (a main room, bathroom, and bedroom), introducing residents including a policeman, a paleontologist, and a scientist, each living in their own themed, cat-packed home.

Three Play Modes

Normal Mode features 300 cats with detailed designs matching each floor's specific theme; Expert Mode offers the same 300 cats in the more minimalist art style longtime Devcats fans will recognize from the studio's earlier games, aimed at sharp-eyed, experienced players; and Time Attack Mode generates a timed mix of 100 cats per apartment for replay-focused players chasing their best times. Time Attack is confirmed as entirely optional -- you don't need to touch it to complete the story.

A Building That Grows for a Year

Rather than launching complete, Flats Full of Cats is designed to expand: Devcats has committed to 9 themed DLC floors over the following 12 months, each adding one full episode -- 3 apartments, 10 rooms, 600 cats, a themed quest, and 60 hidden items -- for $1.99 per floor. Confirmed floor names so far include Stars & Oysters, Bugs & Bolts, Gold & Candles (a floor centered on spirituality, royalty, and humble life, featuring a church, a king's palace, and a villager's home), Capes & Curses, Potions & Masks, Springs & Cogs, Stairs & Tails, and Spines & Stones, alongside a separately-sold official soundtrack. Each floor is fully independent, so players can buy only the themes that interest them.

A Deliberate Achievement Design Choice

Since the game will receive frequent DLC releases, Devcats made a deliberate decision to keep Steam Achievements tied only to the free base version -- keeping progression consistent for every player regardless of which paid floors they choose to explore.

A Real Franchise Milestone

Devcats has been direct about the series' evolution: four years and eight prior games since A Building Full of Cats, the studio has moved toward larger, more story-focused entries rather than frequent small releases -- while Flats Full of Cats' episodic floor structure is specifically designed to let them keep exploring smaller, creative ideas that wouldn't otherwise justify a full standalone game.
