Character Customization in Escape from Tarkov

Escape from Tarkov's customization is gear-based rather than slider-based -- there's no traditional character creator, and appearance mostly comes down to Tactical Clothing (upper and lower pieces, worn in any combination) accessed through Ragman's services menu.

BEAR and USEC each have their own distinct clothing pieces by default. Only owners of The Unheard Edition can mix and match parts from both factions freely.

Face and voice choices are limited and tied to your faction -- historically 3 face and voice options per faction (USEC and BEAR), though the developers have been actively expanding this: a July 2026 teaser showed an upcoming Kord Breach update adding a dedicated PMC face customization tab with at least one new USEC face in development.

The Prestige system adds further cosmetic unlocks at higher Prestige levels, including new PMC character voices, new outfits, new Hideout customization options, and new Dogtag styles -- appearance progression is tied to your account's long-term investment rather than something you fully control from day one.

Since some clothing pieces are earned through character progression while others are permanently unlocked by purchasing game expansions from the official website, your available options will differ depending on which edition you own and how far you've progressed.
