Echobreaker

Echobreaker Wiki

Echobreaker is a lightning-fast precision speedrunning platformer from Upstream Arcade -- the BAFTA-recognized British studio behind Hellboy: Web of Wyrd, West of Dead, and Deadbeat Heroes -- published by Weekend Games. It launched August 6, 2026 on PC via Steam, priced at $8.99 (with a 15% introductory discount to $7.64 through August 20).

The Premise

Set in the year 2097, you pilot an experimental armoured combat rig for TDS Industries, recruited to evaluate the prototype across a series of live-fire testing courses. In a world where speed equals power and employees are treated as disposable, every stage demands quick decision-making, precise movement, and total mastery of your rig to discover faster routes, eliminate enemies, and beat the clock.

The Temporal Echo Drive: Speed Through Sacrifice

Your rig is powered by a volatile Temporal Echo Drive (TED), fueling a resource called Echoes that you actively sacrifice to perform jumps, trigger speed boosts, and open up faster lines through each course. Engaging the Echo State slows time, letting you eliminate enemies for explosive bursts of momentum or scout out dangerous hidden shortcuts -- but every Echo spent leaves you with less room for mistakes, capturing the game's own defining tension directly: speed is power, but also the greatest danger.

15 Handcrafted Tracks and Confirmed Modes

The game features 15 confirmed handcrafted tracks, supported by Global Leaderboards, Ranked Time Trials, Ghost Runs (racing your own best attempt), Instant Restarts, and dedicated Challenge Modes. 37 Steam Achievements and confirmed Online PvP round out the content, all built around the core loop of learning a route, refining your movement, and deciding exactly how much safety to sacrifice for a faster time.

A Genuine Indie Pedigree

Upstream Arcade's prior credits give this release real weight -- the studio previously created the BAFTA-recognized Hellboy: Web of Wyrd (based on the Dark Horse Comics IP), the western roguelike shooter West of Dead, and their debut two-person project Deadbeat Heroes. Ahead of launch, Echobreaker appeared at two real indie showcases, Convergence and Tiny Teams, and ran a Steam Next Fest demo that the developers directly engaged with the community around before retiring it ahead of the full release.
