Since duplicated cards are confirmed to convert into efficiency and health boosts for buildings or survivor-style upgrades for dwarves, don't treat duplicates as wasted draws -- they're confirmed as a genuine, intentional progression system.

Since the game explicitly frames defense as "keep what you can defend," avoid overextending your city faster than your army can actually protect it.
