Story, World, and Voice Cast in Beast of Reincarnation

The Premise

Beast of Reincarnation is set in a version of Japan roughly 2,000 years after a societal collapse (the year 4026, per some sources), now consumed by a corrupting force called the Blight. Emma is a Blightborn outcast who has lost her memories and emotions, desperate to understand what "emotions" even are.

Her companion Koo is a stray dog affected by the Blight but, unlike other afflicted animals, has not turned hostile -- their bond is the emotional and mechanical core of the entire game. Director Kota Furushima has described their partnership as combining the strategic depth of commanding Koo's techniques with the thrilling real-time action of Emma's sword abilities by design, not as two separate systems bolted together.

The Confirmed Voice Cast

The Japanese voice cast, revealed at PC Gaming Show 2026, currently includes five confirmed character pairings:

  • Emma -- Yui Ishikawa (known for Nier: Automata and Attack on Titan)
  • Violet -- Miyuki Sato
  • Brad -- Akio Otsuka (Metal Gear Solid)
  • Kagura -- Sumire Morohoshi
  • Kunai -- Yu Kobayashi

The full announced cast also includes Akira Ishida, Satoshi Mikami, Rina Satoh, and Tetsuo Kanao -- nine actors total -- though character pairings for these four had not been published in official materials as of the cast reveal. More pairings were expected before launch, and this page will note them honestly rather than guess.

World Lore Worth Knowing

One specific, recurring piece of world lore: an in-universe legend warns to "never look up at the sky" -- hinting that something significant exists above the ruined world that the story has not yet explained as of the last pre-launch materials.

Tone and Influences

The game's visual style and tone have drawn comparisons to Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, while its combat has been compared to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Nier: Automata, and Black Myth: Wukong -- an unusual combination for a game coming from a studio best known for Pokemon. Development on Beast of Reincarnation began in 2020, making it a multi-year project well before its public reveal.

World Structure

The game is confirmed to span roughly 10 major stages in a semi-linear "wide zones" structure rather than a fully open world -- you can revisit earlier areas later, but progression mainly comes from discovering new ways to use Emma's existing vine abilities in a location, not unlocking entirely new traversal powers there.
