Story, World, and Voice Cast in Beast of Reincarnation

Beast of Reincarnation is set in a version of Japan roughly 2,000 years after a societal collapse (the year 4026, per some sources), now consumed by a corrupting force called the Blight. Emma is a Blightborn outcast who has lost her memories and emotions, desperate to understand what "emotions" even are.

Her companion Koo is a stray dog affected by the Blight but, unlike other afflicted animals, has not turned hostile -- their bond is the emotional and mechanical core of the entire game, with director Kota Furushima describing their partnership as combining strategic command-based play with real-time swordplay by design.

The confirmed Japanese voice cast, revealed at PC Gaming Show 2026, includes Yui Ishikawa as Emma (known for Nier: Automata and Attack on Titan), alongside Miyuki Sato as Violet, Akio Otsuka (Metal Gear Solid) as Brad, Sumire Morohoshi as Kagura, and Yu Kobayashi as Kunai. The full nine-person cast also includes Akira Ishida, Satoshi Mikami, Rina Satoh, and Tetsuo Kanao, though character pairings for these four had not been published in official materials as of the cast reveal -- more pairings were expected before launch.

One specific, recurring piece of world lore worth knowing: an in-universe legend warns to "never look up at the sky," hinting that something significant exists above the ruined world that the story has not yet explained.

The game's tone and visual style have drawn comparisons to Studio Ghibli's Princess Mononoke, while its combat has been compared to Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Nier: Automata, and Black Myth: Wukong -- an unusual combination for a game coming from a studio best known for Pokemon.

Development on Beast of Reincarnation began in 2020, making it a multi-year project well before its public reveal.
