Equipment and Build Systems in Beast of Reincarnation
Three Pillars, Not Separate Gear Slots
Beast of Reincarnation's equipment depth comes from three interlocking systems: Emma's katanas and ranged weapons, Koo's equippable charms, and Emma's Spirit Stones. None of these function in isolation -- each ties back to the game's central parry-first combat philosophy covered in the combat basics guide.
Katanas: Feel Over Stats
Katanas vary meaningfully in moveset and weight feel rather than being simple stat upgrades. Picking one that matches your preferred combo rhythm and parry timing is a real build decision -- previewers have specifically warned against just chasing the highest raw numbers without testing how a given katana actually swings.
Bows and Crossbows: A Support Tool, Not a Second Build
Ranged weapons serve a specific purpose: reaching weak points on large Nushi that sit beyond melee range. They're best thought of as a complement to Emma's swordplay for particular fights, not a full alternative playstyle you can build entirely around from the start.
Koo's Charms
Charms modify Koo's Bloom Arts with additional effects, directly shaping which commands are worth prioritizing once your FP Gauge is full during a fight. Since Bloom Arts are unlocked progressively by defeating Nushi (see the boss breakdown), your available charm synergies will expand naturally as you clear the campaign rather than being front-loaded.
Spirit Stones: Rewarding the Parry Directly
Spirit Stones activate specifically when Emma successfully parries, tying a third equipment system directly back into defensive skill. This is worth internalizing early: landing parries, not just attacking, is the resource that unlocks the game's strongest tools across all three equipment pillars.
Progression Ties Back to Two Skill Trees
All of this rests on three pillars confirmed by the developers: Emma's skill tree, Koo's skill tree, and equipment itself. A "build" in Beast of Reincarnation is less about gearing up a single character and more about coordinating two interconnected skill sets plus the equipment that supports them.
