Pace your main mission progress with side content exploration rather than rushing straight through -- with only 32 main missions and two endings, side content is where most of the open world's personality lives.

Shops around Agefield -- including a tattoo parlor and bike shop -- let you spend earned cash on clothes, hairstyles, tattoos, accessories, and bikes. None of this is required to progress, but it's a core part of expressing your version of Sam.
