Every match locks in one main faction, one mercenary group, and one hero — so your first decision is really three choices working together, not just a faction pick.
The Protectorate is the most broadly adaptable faction for new players, combining mobile infantry, armored support, air units, and late-game mechs in familiar sci-fi military roles.
There's no single strongest faction — Grell rewards biomass expansion, Legion builds around powerful heroes and heavy units, and Xol rewards planned unit merges, so pick based on playstyle rather than tier lists.
Learning when to use each faction's unique mechanic matters more early on than memorizing individual unit stats.
