The Protectorate is the recommended starting faction in ZeroSpace — its roster follows familiar sci-fi military roles (infantry, armor, air, siege, mechs), making it the most broadly adaptable while you're still learning the game's systems.

Remember every match combines a faction with a mercenary group and a hero, so don't judge a faction in isolation — pairing the Protectorate with different mercenaries changes your available support units and counters significantly.

Once you're comfortable, Grell rewards a more aggressive, expansion-focused playstyle, while Legion and Xol ask you to master a specific unique mechanic (heavy hero-centric pushes and unit merges, respectively) rather than conventional army composition.
