Best Weapons in Valheim

Valheim is a game of stages, not lateral upgrades -- the "best" weapon almost always comes from whichever biome you've most recently reached, since matching damage type to enemy resistance matters more than chasing a single universal best-in-slot pick.

Damage type matters constantly: undead enemies (skeletons, Draugr) are weak to fire and spirit but resist pierce, while Greydwarves hate fire -- a lower-tier weapon of the right damage type regularly outperforms a higher-tier weapon of the wrong type.

Blackmetal Sword (Plains) is simple, high raw pierce damage that comfortably carries you until Mistlands' Mistwalker becomes available.

Mistwalker (Mistlands) trades some raw pierce damage for Frost, one of the strongest elemental effects for crowd control in the current game -- widely considered the best all-around sword once available.

Draugr Fang (Mountains) remains the best bow in the game right up until Ashlands weapons arrive -- its poison damage persists even on a near-miss, making it more forgiving than raw accuracy-dependent alternatives.

Magic only opens up once you reach the Mistlands and unlock Eitr -- Staff of Embers (fire) and Staff of Frost (rapid icicles) both require dedicated Eitr food and Eitr-weave armor to use effectively, so don't expect a caster build to work well before then.

Melee remains the most resource-efficient and forgiving playstyle from early through mid-game -- pairing a sword or mace with a shield lets you parry for staggers and guaranteed critical hits, arguably the single highest-value combat skill in Valheim.
