Best Equipment in Phasmophobia
Since the Ascension update, every piece of equipment in Phasmophobia has 3 tiers, unlocked by leveling your character -- Tier 2 is generally sufficient for Amateur and Intermediate difficulty, while Tier 3 becomes genuinely important on Professional and Nightmare.
EMF Reader and Spirit Box are the two pieces of essential starting evidence equipment -- EMF 5 readings and Spirit Box responses are both counted as official evidence types, so bringing both on every investigation is standard practice.
Thermometer remains a reliable non-electronic pick for locating the ghost room by watching for a temperature spike -- being non-electronic, it's one of the few tools completely safe to hold during an active hunt.
D.O.T.S. Projector lets you visually track the ghost as it moves, and its Tier 3 version adds a genuinely valuable insurance policy: preventing one Cursed Hunt, useful for players tackling harder Cursed Possession content.
Don't underestimate sanity management tools like Firelight and Sanity Meds -- keeping sanity above the threshold that triggers ghost hunting behavior is a consistent priority across every difficulty, and a good Firelight setup (placed on the floor rather than held, for Tier 2+) meaningfully extends how long you can safely investigate.
Remember that any equipment marked Electronic can alert the ghost to your position if left on and held during a hunt -- if you need to hide, prioritize putting down or turning off EMF Readers, Spirit Boxes, and Video Cameras first.
