How do you unlock colors in Marvel Tokon?
You don't unlock most colors -- the first 4 costume colors for every character are free and available to all players from the start. The special 5th option, the Animated Chromatic color, can't be unlocked through gameplay at all -- it's exclusively included with the Ultimate Edition purchase.
Does the PC version really require a PlayStation account?
Yes -- even on Steam and Epic Games Store, MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls requires an active PlayStation Network login to play, mirroring the earlier Helldivers 2 controversy. A regional block that initially prevented purchases in 132 countries without PSN access has since been lifted ahead of launch, but the underlying PSN account requirement remains for everyone on PC.
How many characters are there, and will more be added?
20 playable characters at launch, split into 5 teams of 4. At least 4 more characters are confirmed coming as part of a Year 1 Character and Stage Pass. Phoenix Cyclops, voiced by Ray Chase, is confirmed as the first Year 1 DLC character, targeted for fall 2026 and drawing on the Phoenix Five design from Avengers vs. X-Men -- 3 more fighters and 1 stage in the pass remain unannounced.
What's the difference between the three editions?
Standard ($60) includes just the base game. Digital Deluxe ($85) adds the full Year 1 Character and Stage Pass, a Howard the Duck lobby avatar, and a Cosmo lobby pet. Ultimate ($100) includes everything in Deluxe plus 5 exclusive costumes (for Storm, Captain America, Doctor Doom, Iron Man, and Spider-Man) and Animated Chromatic color unlocks for all 20 launch characters. Pre-ordering any edition gives the same bonus items: Infinity Gauntlet lobby equipment, a Baby Groot lobby pet, and a Cosmic Surfboard lobby ride -- all purely cosmetic lobby customization, not combat advantages.
Do I need to learn all 4 characters on my team?
Not equally -- the game is specifically designed so mastering one point character is enough to play effectively, while your other three team members contribute mainly through assists and tag-ins rather than requiring the same execution depth.
Is there an offline single-player mode?
Yes -- alongside online Casual and Ranked play, the game includes an offline Arcade mode and a full Episode Mode story campaign, which culminates in fights against two Elders of the Universe: the Promoter and the Champion.
Was the PC beta performance actually a problem?
Yes, and Arc System Works has openly acknowledged it -- following real player feedback during the July 24-26 Open Beta (which drew over 33,000 concurrent Steam players), the studio publicly committed to day-one performance improvements rather than staying silent about the issues.
Is there an official fight stick for the game?
PlayStation had planned to release a FlexStrike wireless fight stick alongside the game's launch, but that peripheral has since been delayed past the August 6 release date. The game remains fully playable with a standard controller or keyboard in the meantime.
How many trophies/achievements are there?
39 trophies on PlayStation (including a Platinum), and 38 achievements on Steam (everything except the PlayStation-exclusive Platinum). A notably unusual one, "Deadpool Saves the Tokon Universe," requires unlocking every secret command in Deadpool's in-game Command List.
Are there new costumes beyond launch?
Yes -- two new Wolverine costumes are confirmed: one based on his appearance in Marvel's Wolverine, and one created exclusively for this game by Insomniac Games. A free "Wolverine Battle Reborn Suit" is also confirmed for September 1, alongside a Spider-Man Advanced Suit 2.0 included with the Ultimate Edition.
