Lords of the Fallen has well over a hundred weapons and catalysts, and upgrading any one of them is a significant investment, so picking a strong early option matters more here than in many Soulslikes.

Best early hand-to-hand pick: Fist of Insight, purchased from Damarose the Marked outside the Gentle Gaverus boss arena in Pilgrim's Perch before starting that fight -- modest damage, but strong burn buildup on a fast-attacking weapon.

Best status-effect pick: Kukajin's Sword, obtained only by intentionally failing her NPC questline (smashing her statue instead of helping her in Forsaken Fen) -- applies both Bleed and Poison at once.

Best Radiance boss weapon: Pieta's Sword, purchasable from Molhu after defeating Pieta, She of Blessed Renewal, once boss weapons are unlocked.

Best early sustain pick: Bloodlust, dropped by the Crimson Rector Paladin in Fitzroy's Gorge -- Bleed and Burn modifiers plus health restoration on kill, valuable while your Vitality is still low.

Best Greatsword: Bloody Glory, found in Belled Rise (requires the Pilgrim's Perch key) -- widely ranked among the top 3 Greatswords in the game for its huge bleed damage.

Returning fan favorite: Justice, back from the original Lords of the Fallen -- Physical and Holy damage with a strong built-in Smite effect, reaching A+ Strength scaling once fully upgraded.
