Gears of War: E-Day Wiki - FAQ
Is Gears of War: E-Day out now?
Not fully -- the full game releases October 6, 2026. A genuine two-weekend Open Beta is currently running ahead of launch: an Early Access weekend (August 6-10, restricted to pre-orders and Game Pass Ultimate/PC Game Pass subscribers) followed by a true Open Beta weekend (August 13-17) open to everyone.
Do I need to have played previous Gears of War games?
No -- E-Day is a genuine prequel set 14 years before the original Gears of War, depicting Emergence Day itself, and is designed as a valid starting point for newcomers.
What's new about movement in this game?
For the first time in series history, players can jump and slide in addition to vaulting, adding real verticality and speed to the classic cover-based combat.
What is Horde Siege?
A new 12-player PvE mode reimagining Gears' classic co-op wave-survival format for larger maps -- three 4-player squads defend the city of Kalona together, choosing from 4 classes (Assault, Marksman, Medic, Breacher) and coordinating on shared objectives including world boss encounters.
Does the beta use the same system requirements as the full game?
No -- the beta has its own, separate specifications requiring roughly 80 GB of free SSD space, distinct from the confirmed 130 GB required for the full October 6 launch install. The developers have stated the beta specs are not the same as launch specs.
Will there be a battle pass or seasonal grind?
No -- The Coalition has been explicit that E-Day deliberately avoids battle passes and the franchise's familiar "Tour of Duty" seasonal system, instead rewarding players through gameplay while expanding the game post-launch with new maps, characters, modes, and Horde Siege content.
