Best Beginner Playstyle in Enshrouded

Ranger is the standard recommendation for a first Enshrouded character — bows let you kite and learn enemy attack patterns from a safe distance, and the skill line scales smoothly all the way into the mid-game.

Because there's no fixed class, you're really just choosing where to spend skill points first, and a trip to the Flame Altar lets you reset that allocation for a small resource cost whenever you want to try something else.

If you'd rather commit to melee from the start, Warrior is a flexible alternative — it works with one-handed weapons and a shield, two-handed weapons, or even a bow, so it won't box you into one combat style.
