Mastering the Chain Spear: A Revelations DLC Guide

This isn't a repeat of the Overview page -- it's a closer look at how the Chain Spear and Revelations' level design actually work together, based on official materials since the DLC's July 7 launch.

The Chain Spear Changes How You Move, Not Just How You Fight

Don't think of the Chain Spear as just a new weapon -- it's fundamentally a traversal tool first. Grappling to distant points, yanking enemies into range, and chaining sudden movement bursts together are all confirmed core functions, and mastering the traversal side pays off just as much as mastering it in combat.

Expect to Backtrack

Since Revelations' level design is explicitly inspired by the Metroidvania genre, don't treat any level as fully complete on your first pass through -- new Chain Spear techniques you unlock later are confirmed to open up previously inaccessible paths in earlier areas, meaning genuine progress sometimes means returning to a level you thought you'd finished.

Hell's Core Changes the Rules

Specifically within Hell's Core, the Chain Spear takes over the Shield's usual role entirely -- adjust your combat approach accordingly rather than expecting your Shield Saw muscle memory from the base campaign to carry over directly in that specific section.

Working Toward the Uber Boss

The Uber Boss is confirmed as genuine top-tier endgame content, accessible only after clearing Revelations' Master Arenas -- treat the Master Arenas as real preparation rather than optional side content if that fight is your goal.

Don't Overlook Ripatorium 3.0

If you enjoyed the base game's Ripatorium arena mode, the 3.0 update genuinely expands it with new maps, demons, and customization options -- worth revisiting even if you'd moved past the original version.
