This is the original 2013 release -- if you're looking for the modernized 2026 remake with updated visuals and reworked combat, that's a separate game, Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced. Both exist as distinct products; this page covers the classic original specifically.

Don't expect Edward to behave like a typical Assassin's Creed hero -- his selfish, fortune-driven motivations are a deliberate, central part of his character arc, not a flaw to look past.

Naval Priorities Early On

Invest in upgrading the Jackdaw early rather than treating it as a side activity -- naval combat and exploration make up a substantial portion of the game's actual content, not just a means of getting between land-based missions.

Multiplayer Is Land-Only

If you're interested in the multiplayer modes (Artifact, Domination, Manhunt, Wanted), know these are entirely land-based -- there's no naval multiplayer component, despite how central ships are to the single-player experience.

Common Mistakes

• Confusing this with the 2026 remake when looking for system requirements, editions, or platform availability -- they are genuinely separate products with different specs, content, and even a different developer credit (Ubisoft Montreal here vs. a larger multi-studio effort led by Ubisoft Singapore for Resynced).
• Skipping the Freedom Cry expansion -- it's substantial enough to have been released as its own standalone game.
